Role at MCA: Teacher: k-8 art, 2nd-8th Technology, 6th grade homeroom, student leadership sponsor
# Years with MCA: Our family moved to Mooresville in 1998 and our oldest son, Patrick began kindergarten at MCA that fall. I have worked at MCA over the last 11 years in many capacities, 6 full time years and several years of partial teaching like maternity leaves, sick leaves and once when a teacher had to move away before 4th quarter began. I have coached basketball for both boys and girls many times and also coached volleyball a few years. I was also the PTF president for 2 years…little known fact!
Over these years I have taught Kindergarten, both full day and ½ day, and 4th grade, along with my current junior high and art position.
Nickname: Mom
Pets: “Sadie” a big, old (emphasis on old) yellow lab, “Kika” the kitty and Andrew has a guinea pig…”Rufus”, but I don’t really claim him. He smells.
Favorites:
- Bible Verse: Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”
- Musician or Group: I love to listen to any Christian music because it makes me remember that God is always with me and when I sing and worship Him, I feel so much better and Joy happens in my heart. I also love David Crowder, Switchfoot and Reliant K. They are hilarious.
- Song: Right now I love the “I’ve got another dent in my fender, got another rip in my jeans…” song by Francesca Battistelli.
- Place to visit: My favorite place on earth is the beach at St. Pete, Florida where we go with our family, all of them! (my mom and dad and grandma, my brother and his family, my husband’s mom and dad and his brother and family, etc.) and lot’s of friends every year for spring break. I LOVE THE BEACH!
- Sport(s): My first love is basketball, I played as a kid and young person and still love to play and coach. I also love to watch Colts football.
- Author: I really like Lori Wick and Laura Ingalls Wilder…anything about the pioneer days. I read anything I can get my hands on.
Home town: Cincinnati, Ohio
Hobbies: Reading, Scrapbooking, hanging out with my family, watching fun movies and my favorite tv shows like psych and so you think you can dance. I also love to play guitar and sing. I am on the worship team at church and work with the youth band.
Background: I went to Ben Davis High School and then Indiana University. I spent my summers growing up and all through college at Gallahue Girls Scout camp and was a lifeguard and counselor. I loved Girl Scouts, and this was where I really decided I wanted to be a teacher. I was married in 1990 and have 3 children. Patrick is 16 and attends Mooresville HS, Andrew is 12 in 6th grade at MCA and Maddie is 7 in 2nd grade at MCA. My husband was a church planter for a while and we moved a lot. We have lived in Kentucky, Florida and several places in Indiana. I have one brother who is a computer guru and he has a wife and 3 little girls who I love to play with.
Testimony: I grew up in a wonderful Christian home and went to church every Sunday. When I was 14 I realized that I was not going to be okay on my own and that I needed a Savior. Jesus has been with me ever since. Life can be very hard, sometimes we go through things we don’t understand and sometimes we lose people we love very much. I have learned that God does not cause the pain, this is just life. But God IS with me and is the one who makes the hurting slow down and who heals all broken hearts.
MCA has been such a blessing to our family over the years providing a wonderful place for my kids to go to school, but also as a family for us. We have so many friends and people who love us here and we love you, too!
