Home town: Indianapolis

Hobbies:

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I still enjoy playing volleyball and softball but my body does not always agree with me.  I am really starting to enjoy watching Major League Baseball again.  I find real joy in watching the Boston Red Sox games with a few of my good friends- Janet, Marilyn and Mandy.  I also enjoy watching movies, traveling, working at Anderson Orchard, and I am learning to enjoy musicals.

Background:

I graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1982.  I then attended IUPUI from 1982-1987 and I earned a Bachelor of Science (K-12) in Physical Education and a minor in Health.  I did not get a teaching job right out of college and worked at a place called Puritan Bennett.  There they made oxygen tanks for most of the major Health homecare companies.

There are 2 families that are responsible for me coming to teach at MCA.  The Farmers (Ralph & Debbie) were my neighbors and their children Brooks and Hayley got me involved with the school.  Mrs. Cathy Paxton (the former administrator of MCS now MCA and my Pastor’s wife) hired me the first year the school had 9th grade.  The needed at certified P.E. teacher for the 9th graders and she hired me to do all the grades.  The students before that had one day of P.E. for the entire school called Shape.  So you can blame them for your crazy P.E. teacher.

Testimony:

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Personal Savior at the age of 10 and I really didn’t understand exactly what that meant.  I was exposed to many different religious backgrounds and was really confused.  I think at that time in my life I really accepted Christ for “fire insurance”.

Unfortunately, I made some poor choices during my college and some years after where I did not walk with the Lord.  The great news is that I rededicated my life to Jesus at the age of 29. God provided the right people at the right time in my life to help me realize how much He loved me.  I got serious about what it meant to be a Christian, attended a wonderful church (Camby Community Church), and started teaching a few months later at MCA.  I would say that MCA has been a true blessing to me.

God has always provided for my needs and especially after I took a huge cut in pay to teach here.  He has blessed me over and over in so many different ways.  There were times that I would not have any money left from my check to buy groceries and would not tell anyone, then there would be money in my mailbox in a blank envelope to buy the things I needed and more.  He has also provided for my medical bills and unexpected situations.

The biggest blessings are the ones that I receive daily from the students, parents, and staff at MCA.  I don’t think I can put into words exactly how much I love and appreciate this place.  I would like to say “Thank You” for allowing God to use you to bless me and for all the love and support I feel on a daily basis.
