Background: Miss Peacock grew up in Muncie, Indiana and got both her BA and MAE degrees from Ball State University. Her first teaching job began the next fall at Westside Christian School in Marion, Indiana, where she taught for six years.
After teaching Bible school the next summer at a Choctaw Indian Mission in McIntosh, Alabama, she felt called to spend two years on the mission field teaching in their Christian school. Most of her students lived in very humble wooden homes with no doors, windows, or running water. They had to get water directly from a stream. It was a wonderful experience to go to pow-wows and experience the Choctaw culture.
Then, just as she was praying whether to return to Alabama the following school year, a friend of hers who was teaching at MCA at the time called and asked if she would be interested in MCA’s second grade opening. The Lord seemed to be directing her to apply, and she was hired to begin the next fall. That was in 1989, and she has been here since that time.
Parenting was one role Miss Peacock really wanted to experience because of her love for children. She applied to be a foster mom, and, two years later, was able to adopt her daughter, Krystal Dawn. Krystal is married to Joshua Blair. They have three boys: Jacob, almost 4, Alex, 2, and Drake, 7 months. A shih tzu, Topaz, and her parakeet, Blueberry, also occupy Miss Peacock’s time. She also enjoys teaching Sunday school at Camby Community Church.
Testimony: Both of Miss Peacock’s grandmothers were Sunday school teachers, and she was brought up in both the Methodist and Friends churches. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in elementary school. Although she matured in her Christian faith throughout Jr. High and High School, her college years were the most challenging, and that was her biggest time of spiritual growth.
At Ball State University Miss Peacock got involved in Campus Crusade for Christ. This group challenged her to pray with, and for, other people, to share her faith with other college students, and helped her understand the difference between just accepting Jesus as your Savior and allowing the Holy Spirit to have control of every area of your life. Her involvement in their Bible studies and discipleship groups gave her the confidence to pray out loud, which she would have been too timid to do previously.
One of the greatest rewards she receives as a Christian teacher is to see her students accept Jesus as their Savior and watch the Lord work in their lives.
