Background:

I am an Army brat.  I was born in Frankfort, Germany.  I have a younger brother, Patrick.  I have lived in New Jersey, Alaska, and Germany.  The majority of my growing up years were in Germany.  We moved to Indiana from Germany when I was a junior in high school.  I graduated from Lawrence North High School.  From there I went to University of Southern Indiana, Evansville for a year and then finished at IUPUI.  During that time I worked as a waitress, nanny, LOGO 7, and UPS.  After graduation I worked for the government for a short time and then an engineering firm.  Needless to say I was very restless.  I needed to find a teaching job.  I decided to interview for a teaching job in New Mexico on a Navajo reservation.  I moved out to Crownpoint, New Mexico in 1995.  During summer break I brought two teenage Navajo students home with me for vacation for two weeks.  Boy, what an eye opener for them…. And me too…. Two teenagers!  I met Kempis (MCA’s Cubmaster) my husband during this time.  A childhood friend from Germany whose dad was transferred to Indiana too, called me and told me I had to meet Kempis.  I went back to New Mexico to teach for another year and during this time Kempis and I got to know each other well through letter and phone calls and the occasional visits.  When I moved back to Indiana I taught in Perry Township for a year.  Kempis and I got engaged.  I then decided to take a job at Decatur Township Middle school teaching 7th grade Language Arts.  Since relocating as a teacher to Decatur Township, I have also found myself in the library as a librarian, a literacy teacher for both 7th and 8th grade, and now I will be facilitating a computer program to help foster literacy, comprehension and test scores.  Kempis and I married that same year (1997) and moved to Mooresville.  Two years later we had Guerin and built our first house.  Two years later, another baby boy came along:  Kempis (or Little Kempis, as he’s come to be known).  I also decided to get my Masters Degree in Education from Indiana Wesleyan University during this time.  Two years later…. You guessed it, another baby boy, Orion.  Three years later and another house building we had our baby girl, Ruby.  We lead a very full life with our children and have recently added two pups this last Spring to our family (Sophie and Eddie).

Testimony:

I was brought up in the Catholic faith.  I was baptized and received my first communion at a young age as is common in the Catholic religion.  I always knew from a young age that God was with me, walking with me every step of the way, watching as I made good choices that affected myself and others in a good way, and sometimes watching me fall and make poor choices too.

As a teenager in Germany, I was involved with an active youth group and remember walking to church by myself many Sundays because I knew this was a good way to recharge for the week.  In the Catholic faith typically a teenager goes through confirmation, a final step in my faith.  My parents did not feel that I was mature enough to make this journey at that time.  During my college years I did not attend church regularly.

When I moved to New Mexico I had plenty of time to think and discover who I was and what I wanted to become for God.  I decided to take the final step in the Catholic faith and took classes for confirmation.  My family attends Saint Francis and Clare Catholic Church in Greenwood.  We also feel that Mooresville Christian Academy plays a significant role in helping us to become closer to God.
