Our junior high uses Bob Jones Science textbooks. The sixth grade studies Life Science. We cover cells, mitosis, genetics, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and a little on each of the major phyla in the Animal Kingdom. We dissect worms, frogs, squid and owl pellets. They also spend three days at Bradford Woods.
The seventh grade studies Earth Science. We do a lot on astronomy, studying the stars, sun, moon, and space exploration. We also study rocks, fossils, earth's water systems and the atmosphere. They do a mock space flight at the Challenger Space Center and build and launch model rockets.
The eighth graders study beginning Chemistry and Physics. They learn about atoms and molecules, formulas and equations, energy, simple machines, heat, light, magnetism and electricity. They will do a “physics fair” this year; building and testing several physics concepts.
